There is something mysterious about Incan ruins. They are high up in the mountains and normally cause bouts of daydreaming as the imagination flies to some remote Andean hidden valley. The Fortress of Kuelap fulfills all those requirements and more. These ruins are testimony of a pre-Incan culture that was conquered by the powerful Incan Empire. The fortress dates to the 6th century and once was the stronghold of “The Warriors of the Clouds”. Mysterious enough?

Kuelap has received some attention of late as the “Macchu Pichu of Northern Peru”, but because it is remote and difficult to access, it has remained largely untouched by tourism. The fortress lies in the junction between the Amazon rainforest and the Andes. It is the perfect opportunity for those seeking an adventure in magnificent nature, with hidden ancient ruins thrown into the mix.
